Privacy policy

We collect only what the courses need to work and to keep your progress safe. No advertising, and your information is never sold.

1Who we are

Suvaani runs two courses on this website: Prakrit Suvaani and Sanskrit Suvaani. This policy explains what we collect when you use them, why, and the choices you have. When we say “we” or “us”, we mean the Suvaani team.

For any question about your information, write to us through the contact page and choose “Privacy, copyright or legal”.

2What we collect

Without an account. You can learn without signing up. Your lesson progress and preferences then stay in your own browser, and we do not receive them.

With an account. We keep:

  • your display name and email address, and whether you confirmed that address;
  • your password, stored only as a secure one-way hash, never as the password itself;
  • the one-time links we email you to confirm your address or choose a new password, stored only as one-way hashes;
  • your learning record: lessons finished, exercise answers and scores, practice sets, words you are reviewing, XP, streaks and badges;
  • your device's time zone (for example Asia/Kolkata), so your daily streak follows your own midnight;
  • whether you chose to appear on the weekly leaderboard.

Premium requests. The course and period you ask for, and the phone number and note you add if you choose to. Payments are made by UPI or bank transfer outside this website, so we never see or store card details.

Contact messages. Your name, email address, topic and message.

Language issue reports. When you use "Report a language issue", the page, the lesson or word it is about, the kind of problem and your message, plus your account if you are signed in, or the email address you choose to add if you are not.

Technical information. Your IP address is used briefly to stop repeated sign-in attempts and spam. Our servers keep short technical logs and a record of server errors (what failed, where, when, and the account involved, never passwords or answers) to find and fix problems, and count how fast each part of the site answers, in totals with no personal details.

Visitor statistics. We count visits with a privacy-friendly tool that uses no cookies and does not follow you across other websites. It shows us totals such as which pages are read and which countries and devices visitors use, never who you are.

3How we use it

  • to run the courses, check your answers and keep your progress on every device you sign in on;
  • to open Premium for you after a request and payment;
  • to show your display name on the leaderboard, only if you switch it on;
  • to answer your messages and check the language issues you report;
  • to keep the site secure and stop abuse;
  • to improve lessons, exercises and explanations, using totals rather than individual learners.

We do not show advertising, we do not sell your information, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.

4Cookies and storage on your device

When you sign in, we set one essential cookie that keeps you signed in for up to 30 days (12 hours for staff accounts). It cannot be used to track you on other websites.

The site also saves your preferences (for example Kids or Adults mode, voice, speed and text size) and your progress in your browser's own storage, so the courses remember your settings. You can clear this at any time from your browser settings.

We use no advertising or social media tracking cookies.

5Audio, voices and recordings

Words are read aloud from our teachers' recordings where they exist, otherwise by your device's own voice.

If you have Premium and choose the Bhashini voice in Preferences, the Prakrit or Sanskrit text being read is sent to Bhashini, the language service of the Government of Bharat, to create the audio. Only that text is sent, never your name or email.

When you record yourself in speaking practice, the recording stays in your browser for you to play back. It is not uploaded to us.

6Who we share it with

We share information only with the services that help us run Suvaani, and only as much as each needs:

  • our website platform, which hosts the site, its database and files, and sends our emails;
  • Bhashini, as described above, when you choose its voice.

Emails we send through our platform may measure whether they were opened and which links were clicked, so we know they arrived.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect our learners and the service from fraud or harm.

7How long we keep it

  • Account information and learning records: until you delete your account.
  • Premium requests and access records: as long as needed to provide Premium and keep proper records of payments.
  • Contact messages and language issue reports: as long as needed to answer you, correct the content and follow up, or until you delete your account.
  • Records of server errors: 90 days. Speed totals: 30 days.
  • Security counters for sign-in and spam protection: they expire on their own within an hour.
  • Email confirmation and password reset links: they stop working once used, or after 7 days (confirmation) or one hour (password reset), and are then removed.
  • The record of each lesson play, which lets us check scores fairly and see where lessons are too hard: up to 90 days, or up to a year for a lesson finished without an account so it can still move into a new account.
  • The record that lets us count each practice, story and grammar answer only once: up to 30 days.

8Your choices and rights

From your account page you can:

  • download everything stored for your account;
  • change your display name;
  • confirm your email address, and sign out on every device;
  • switch the leaderboard on or off;
  • delete your account, which removes your learning record with it.

You can also ask us to correct or delete your information, or ask what we hold about you, through the contact page. We will answer within a reasonable time.

9Children

Suvaani has a Kids mode, and many of our learners are children. We ask that a parent or guardian creates and looks after the account for a child, and we collect nothing more for children than for anyone else.

A parent or guardian can ask us at any time to see or delete a child's information through the contact page.

10How we protect it

Passwords are stored as one-way hashes, every page is served over an encrypted connection, requests that change your account must come from this website, and repeated attempts are limited. Choosing a new password signs your account out everywhere. No system is perfectly secure, so if you think your account has been misused, choose a new password from the sign-in page and contact us straight away.

11Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and the date at the top. For important changes, we will also point them out on the site.
